Flipped Classroom
A flipped classroom is a great example of a paradigm shift as it was presented as a paradox to the traditional approach to the teaching-learning process. The whole system turned on its head as the focal point shifted from the teachers to the students; from the homework to the classwork. Traditionally, students listen to lectures and take tests in class whereas reading textbooks and working on problems is set back at home. In contrast, flip teaching tends the students to first study the topic by themselves through various media like videos lessons on YouTube then later solve the problems and do practical work in the class. This approach has opened various windows of opportunities where it allows the learners to learn according to their pace and it also allows the students to be more prepared with their active contribution to the discussion carried out in the classroom. Likewise, this also increases the time span for group work and projects in the classroom providing scope for peer learning where both advanced and less advanced learners could work in parallel. As a counterpart, teachers could also be benefited as they could focus not only on extrovert and advanced students but also, on the left-out students individually during the classwork session as there will be plenty of time for the teachers to mentor and facilitate individual students. Thus, flipped classrooms can be an approach that can overhaul the whole system for good.
